Below
are some of the procedures performed at ACCESS.
Endoscopy Procedures
Upper endoscopy known as EGD,
this enables a physician to look inside the esophagus, stomach,
and duodenum (first part of the small intestine). The procedure
might be used to discover the reason for swallowing difficulties,
nausea, vomiting, reflux, bleeding, indigestion, abdominal pain,
or chest pain.
Colonoscopy lets the physician look
inside your entire large intestine, from the rectum, up through
the colon and into the small intestine. The procedure is used to
look for early signs of cancer or to diagnose the causes of unexplained
changes in bowel habits.
Feeding Tube Placement is necessary
when a patient is unable to get the proper nutrition the body needs
through normal eating. This may be because of an inability to swallow
well or to tolerate solid foods. The feeding tube can also be used
to give medicines that are needed but are unable to taken by mouth.
By using x-rays, a feeding tube can be passed more quickly and easily
into the proper location just beyond the stomach.
Esophageal Dilation allows the doctor
to dilate, or stretch, a narrowed area of your esophagus [swallowing
tube]. The most common cause of narrowing of the esophagus is scarring
of the esophagus from reflux of acid occurring with heartburn.
Other
ACCESS Surgery Center Procedures
Shoulder Arthroscopy is a useful
diagnostic and therapeutic procedure that allows direct visualization
of the shoulder joint. With an arthroscope, camera, and video equipment
the physician can make a definitive diagnosis, as well as correct
some chronic shoulder problems without performing major surgery.
Knee Arthroscopy allows an orthopedic
surgeon to diagnose and treat knee disorders by providing a clear
view of the inside of the knee with small incisions, utilizing a
pencil-sized instrument called an arthroscope. During the procedure,
the surgeon also can insert surgical instruments through other small
incisions in your knee to remove or repair damaged tissues.
